Meet Fred Ortiz – at the “Scottsdazzle” Artwalk
December 14, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
“Uniquely distinctive, Fred’s bronzes are original, one of a kind bronze vessels imbued with semi-precious stones including turquoise, lapis and Mediterranean coral.”
Fred Ortiz was born and raised in Nambe, north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico, he began to create vessels in bronze. Working with a well-known foundry owned by his wife’s family, he began to cast and sell his work throughout the country. His work has now been collected for over thirty years, and he has designed and produced many commissioned pieces for a diverse list of clients.
Uniquely distinctive, Fred’s vessels are original, one of a kind bronze sculpture. His choice of semi-precious stones are the first step in determining the story of his design. His technique stands apart from most bronze sculptors in his method of creating hardened sand molds which encase the hot wax and melted bronze for the final work of art, creating only one original work of art. Over his many years of finishing metal, he has developed and perfected methods and materials that are not available to other metal finishers.
